After just last week releasing a Kindle application for Mac OS X, Amazon has now announced the same for the iPad. Apparently, they are in the process of creating an application that would not only allow you to read your Kindle books on an iPad, it would even let you purchase items from the Kindle Store right on your iPad. Furthermore, Amazon is including their Whispersync technology that syncs bookmarks, notes, and page positions between the Kindle and other devices.
If you want a more detailed preview of what the application is going to look like and entail, Amazon has created a web page just for that reason. Unfortunately, this application won’t be available on April 3rd as Amazon wants the chance to test with an actual iPad before they release their application.
I find it interesting that Amazon is able to even put their bookstore in the App Store, especially considering Apple has their own iBooks application for just that purpose. Having both of these applications directly in the App Store is sure to start a potential pricing war for the lowest cost in terms of ebooks. Furthermore, now the only possible advantage the Kindle could have over the iPad is the e-ink screen—if you even consider that an advantage. Unfortunately for Amazon, though, the Kindle would have been in trouble whether or not this application was created.
